How Agentic AI Is Automating Telecom Network Operations and Fault Resolution

The Story

A telecom operator wanted to reduce the manual effort its network operations center spent detecting, diagnosing, and resolving network faults. As network complexity grew across fiber, mobile, and enterprise services, engineers were handling a rising volume of alarms and tickets, many of which followed repeatable resolution patterns.

InnovationM helped address this challenge through telecom software development services. As a software development service provider company with AI engineering depth, InnovationM built an agentic AI platform that combines AI agents, network telemetry analysis, and automated remediation workflows to handle routine faults autonomously while escalating complex issues to engineers.

The Challenge

The operator's network operations center relied on engineers to review alarms, correlate events across systems, and execute fixes manually. High alarm volumes made it difficult to separate root causes from downstream symptoms.

The existing approach made it difficult to:

  • Correlate large volumes of alarms and identify the true root cause of faults.
  • Resolve routine, repeatable faults without manual engineer involvement.
  • Reduce the time between fault detection and service restoration.
  • Apply consistent resolution steps across shifts and teams.
  • Keep engineers focused on complex incidents rather than repetitive tickets.
  • Maintain control and auditability over automated network changes.

From a technical perspective, the solution needed AI agents that could read network telemetry, reason over operational runbooks, and take actions through OSS and network management interfaces. This required careful guardrails, approval rules, and rollback mechanisms so autonomous actions remained safe in a live carrier network.

The Solution

InnovationM developed an agentic AI platform that monitors network events, diagnoses faults, and executes approved remediation steps through the operator's existing systems. The solution included:

  • Alarm correlation: Grouping related alarms and events to identify probable root causes instead of isolated symptoms.
  • AI diagnostic agents: Using AI agents to analyze telemetry, logs, and topology data and determine the likely cause of each fault.
  • Runbook automation: Converting operational runbooks into structured actions that agents can execute consistently.
  • Autonomous remediation: Resolving routine faults such as service resets, configuration corrections, and traffic rerouting within defined policies.
  • Human escalation: Routing complex or high-risk incidents to engineers with a diagnostic summary and recommended next steps.
  • OSS integration: Connecting agents to fault management, inventory, and ticketing systems through secure APIs.
  • Guardrails & audit: Applying approval rules, change limits, rollback steps, and full audit logging to every automated action.

The key focus was not simply adding AI to alarm dashboards, but creating an autonomous operations capability that resolves routine faults safely within real network workflows. This made software engineering for the operator's NOC as much about governance as about intelligence.

The Impact

The implementation helped the operator move from manual, alarm-driven fault handling toward AI-assisted, partly autonomous network operations. Engineers spent less time on repetitive tickets and more time on complex network issues. The solution supported:

  • Faster identification of fault root causes.
  • Autonomous resolution of routine, repeatable network faults.
  • Reduced manual workload for network operations teams.
  • More consistent fault handling across shifts.
  • Safe automation backed by guardrails and audit trails.
  • A foundation for broader autonomous network operations.

By bringing together agentic AI, telemetry analysis, runbook automation, and OSS integration, InnovationM showed how telecom software development services can move operators closer to self-healing networks.

The challenge was not simply detecting network faults faster. It was letting AI agents act on them safely in a live carrier network. By combining root-cause analysis, runbook automation, and strict guardrails, our team built an operations capability engineers could trust.
